Our latest harvest included carrots and our first cucumbers from the greenhouse and garlic scapes from a raised bed. I’m planning a szechuan cucumber salad, red curry roasted carrots and grilled scapes.
My son planted garlic 4 years ago and it has been growing in my flower bed all this time. I actually think it is pretty. Should I consider trying to harvest some this year, divide it, or let it be? I I plan to harvest some I should probably cut the scapes and not let it flower.
Hi Bonnie! Definitely harvest the scapes. They are great in stir frys or grilled with a little olive oil, salt and pepper. If you want to harvest them, do it when the green part starts to wilt and turn brown. Kind of like an onion. You can separate out the head into individual cloves and plant them again in September/October. They will give you heads again next summer. Good luck!

Connie, I am so in awe and jealous of your advanced season. I know it’s partly geography and partly your greenhouse, but I’m still jealous.
