Gardening Under Glass

Potatoes are still growing in one of our greenhouse beds.  Just a few of them, we’ve already harvested and eaten the rest as small or new potatoes.  I was saving the last few plants, hoping these would grow to maturity but a bunny kept hopping through our open greenhouse side curtains and digging them up and leaving them half eaten.  I threw a couple of bell jars (normally used for protecting tender plants from freezing) on the area where they were digging and look what happened.  Plants have sprouted and are growing like crazy.  We learn something every single week in our garden.

Have you ever seen the series “Victorian Kitchen Garden”? If not, you must. Seeing this totally reminded me of it. There’s a fascinating episode where they grow mushrooms and you can hear them growing!

I’ve never even heard of it. I wonder if it’s not available in the U.S.? It sounds like something right up my alley! I love the series Jamie At Home where he mostly cooks in his garden shed with freshly picked ingredients.

Look it up on YouTube. I think it’s from the 90’s, a BBC production. It’s not really a cooking show… more about vitorian gardening and life. Here’s the first part
