Haven’t yet made it out to the barn to see our new baby chicks, maybe this afternoon when my Aunt Carol and Uncle Lynn stop by for a visit on their big East Coast road trip. I did, however, find this photo from a week ago in my camera. Our beltie cow Jessica follows Jenna along the fence line whenever she sees her. It doesn’t matter which direction Jenna is going, Jessica lopes along until she catches up. She ignores the other dogs, it’s just Jenna she finds fascinating. They have the same coloring, maybe she thinks Jenna is a tiny calf who runs really fast?
Fascination

Aw, love that Jessica follows Jenna around. Sweet cow. Good thing I’m not a farmer!

What an amazing thought about why she follows your lovely Jenna. It makes one wonder what really goes on in their minds. Perhaps they remember past family? I think of the dairy cows that have their calves taken away so soon from them – so sad. I don’t know the history of your cows, but I do know people who have bought retired dairy cows and then bred them and they seem to really want to be with their calves for a long period of time (which, I suppose, is normal). I really wish animals could have happy homes and memories. I often wonder about dogs and cats, too. Poor babies – taken from their mommas so young (for our enjoyment).

I think it makes a very nice story: A little calf that runs fast. Big smile.

Ahh, that is sweet. Perhaps you’re right. Makes sense. I’m just catching up on what I missed while camping. Hope you’re getting around better. Can take awhile for some bruises to heal. Especially those deep muscle ones.
Take it easy!
