The Beekeeper’s Workshop

I adore bees, they are some of nature’s most indispensable creatures. At one time, my husband and I had the privilege of being beekeepers and got to observe their social interactions up close. We fed them through the winter and they provided us with delicious honey in the summer. I sold our honey products at the local farmer’s market every Friday morning. We carried homemade soap, beeswax candles and assorted containers of sourwood honey from our homestead. Our kitchen was the setting for all the sticky messy bee-related activities. Years of daydreaming about having a separate space just for that purpose was the inspiration for this miniature workshop using some amazing supplies from Alpha Stamps.

The setting for the workshop is a 7×9 Corner Room Box with Window. Since there was a lot of furniture I wanted to include in the workshop I knew the large window opening was going to be an issue. No worries, I just papered right over it.

The paper I used for the walls is from Echo Park’s Bee Happy paper pad. I chose a honeycomb pattern for the bottom and a bold stripe for the top. The chair rail is a wooden craft stick painted white. The white hardwood floor paper is from Craft Consortium.

The wall art comes from the new Honey & Bees collage sheet and also the Honey and Beeswax and Birds and Bees collage sheets. The images are all set inside of Mini Frames painted black.

The Tile Top Table was assembled using a bit of tacky glue before painting it brown and adding brads for the door pulls and 11mm glass mosaic tiles to the top in a checkerboard pattern.

Additionally, I included a Workshop Table 1:12 painted dark brown and a new Oval Back Chair-1:12 Scale decorated with images from the Honey & Bees collage sheet.

The final piece of furniture used was an Oak Hutch – 2 Drawers that was decorated with paper from the Happy Bee pad and a few garden themed brads glued to the side.

Those decorative plates on the top shelf are images from the Bees collage sheet I reduced in size and glued to a White Fluted Edge Plate. Once dry, I added a coat of clear nail polish for some shine.

With all of the furniture in place the decorating fun begins. One of the products I made for our farmer’s market was beeswax candles. To make miniature ones, I used the new Mini Succulents Silicone Mold along with beeswax colored polymer clay. They were unmolded before baking and I used a straight pin to poke holes for the wicks to be added after baking. The wicks are made from cotton twine stiffened with craft glue.

The finished candles are displayed in a Tiny Tray with Handles painted white and fitted with a scrap of paper from the Bee Happy collection.

I made another tray with tile images from the Honey & Bees collage sheet. To make them glossy I added a layer of UV resin that was cured on top of the tile images before cutting them out. They were glued on top of ½ Inch Chipboard Tiles. Since the tiles leave just a bit of space inside the tray when set in place I opted to paint a couple of round toothpicks white then cut to size and used them as spacers.

The finished trays.

I made a few jar candles with the beeswax colored polymer clay. I used an Even Tinier Bottle and packed the clay inside with the help of a metal ball tool then added a stiffened twine wick. The jar lids are made from googly eyes that I cut apart.

The finished jars were decorated with bees from the Tiny Bees & Bugs Die-Cuts Mix.

An assortment of honey based soaps were made in miniature with polymer clay and the new Mini Bees Silicone Mold as well as the Mini Succulents Silicone Mold for some rosette shaped ones. They are displayed on a Plastic Serving Tray. Sweet!

A Mini Succulent planter is decorated with a Tiny 3D Resin Honey Bee.

Honey Bee Jar Washi Tape is used to embellish a couple of the 6 or 12 Tiny Glass Bottles. A very simple decorative touch.

The one honey related item that we made but didn’t sell was mead. I had a bunch of miniature Corona beer bottles that I was gifted a few years ago. They are a larger scale than I am used to working with so they’ve sat in my stash for a while, they’re more wine bottle sized than beer. I was pleasantly surprised that I could get the labels off and add my own from the Little Household Goods collage sheet. I also added a round bee label for the bottle’s neck from the Tiny White Bee Stickers sheet.

They fit perfectly inside a Chunky Crate. The label came from the Tiny Labels for Crates, Jars & Cans collage sheet.

Here are the honey jars I used in this project; Mini Clear Resin Honey Jars, Mini Cloudy Resin Honey Jars and Tall Mini Honey Jars.

Jar labels for the smaller jars come from the Tiny Black Bee Stickers sheet. They are packaged inside a Chunky Crate with a label from the Honey & Bees collage sheet.

Along with honey jars we sold honey bears. These were made from Resin Honey Yellow Gummy Bears. 6mm Bronze Double Spacer Beads and round toothpicks painted red.

Just glue the toothpick ends into the spacer beads and on top of the gummy bears. Perfection!

A couple of textbooks were made from Mini Books with Blank Covers and images from both the Honey & Bees and Cabinet of Curiosities collage sheets.

The Workshop Table is a busy place with bottles of mead in the process of being labeled.

A Micro Mini Teddy Bear sits on the shelf along side the honey bears. The candy dish is an Aluminum Bundt Cake Pan holding bits from the Honeycomb Polymer Clay Slice Mix. It sits next to a Red Metal Hexagon Box containing labels.

Jars of honey are also in the process of being labeled.

Here’s the assembled Oak Hutch. A Tiny Teddy Bear with Bow sits next to the tray of honey soaps on the bottom shelf.

A Mini Glass Dome – Bronze – 30mm Tall holds an HO scale beekeeper my husband got me for Christmas a few years back. I’ve been saving it for a special project. The bee skep image sits inside a 1:12 Brass Picture Frame.

The final touch is the addition of rugs printed on velour paper from the Honey & Bees collage sheet.

Thanks so much for your visit today. There are so many new bee themed supplies to play with, I hope you are inspired to make something wonderful! You can find all the amazing Alpha Stamps supplies I’ve used right HERE
