Jenna lost her 6 month battle with bone cancer and we lost an integral member of our family and farm team. It now takes both of us to keep the sheep and goats from eating from our cow’s bucket at feeding time, and some of our sheep missed their grain this morning because we didn’t run out and get them like she used to do for us. We’re lazy. We miss her.
A guest post from my husband Brian: We had never had a dog, so we didn’t really know what it would be like to have a border collie. Because I’m allergic to dogs, we went out and bought a dog lot enclosure to put next to the house and got her a Canine Condo, a ridiculously expensive Cadillac of dog houses with a heated dog bed. Of course, within 2 weeks we went out and bought a cheap kennel from Walmart and she moved into the house. The outdoor kennel sat idle for 4 years. She was a part of our family and we will miss her dearly.

I had the privilege of knowing this girl a little bit. She was a lovely, loyal, sweet dog who had a very good life with Connie and Brian. She did what she loved to do and was cherished by fine people. No one could ask for more.

Ohhh – this is so sad – I felt like I knew her too even though I never met her. -Tears in my eyes as I type this at work – I know the heartbreak of losing “the best dog ever”. You were lucky to have her and she was lucky to have such a happy life with you. Hugs.

She was a sweet, wonderful member of the family and fun to watch at work. It breaks my heart to know she won’t be there anymore. She was truly loved and will be missed by many.

I am so sorry. I know how much you both loved her and how much she loved both of you (Brian). There is nothing to compare to a dog’s love. We all enjoyed hearing your Jenna stories. She had the best life any dog could have.

She was a lucky dog to have so much love and enjoy her work too. I hope that you soon find a new worker to help with the sheep, but know that no one can ever replace Jenna. She was a sweet dog indeed.

I had seen some of your blog entries post on Facebook and wanted to check out your blog. I started at the most obvious spot, the beginning. Your birthday,anniversary, everything gift that started this. A journey through the years. I have never felt more touched by an animal then Jenna. Having raised hunting/working dogs myself well its hard to explain. All I can say is that you will never know a more unconditional love than that of a dogs. Never be more needed than by a dog and sadly never know a better friend than a dog. No matter the problem our K-9 friends show us that as long as someone puts forth the effort they are willing to return. They are ready to get the job done no matter what stands in there way. That business as usual approach or lazor focus that you need to accomplish your goals is with in us all we just have to love what we do. Remember actions speak louder than words, a pat on the back makes all the difference, and to listen is to be a good friend.
